The VWI New Year’s Gathering on Wednesday 16th of January 2013 was the kick-off for the theme “Grab your chance!”. audienceIn the presence of almost 100 attendees Christine Verheijden, gender expert, presented the high-lights of a report developed by the Science Shop (Wetenschapswinkel) on the opportunities for female talent at Wageningen UR.

The report Kansen voor Vrouwelijk Talent (published in Dutch) commissioned by the VWI-network, presents the results of qualitative research as well as the facts of the National Monitor female Professors 2012. International research shows that diverse teams structurally perform better. However, universities in The Netherlands, and Wageningen University in particular, score poorly with regard to the number of female professors. In her presentation Christine Verheijden made some recommendations for specific actions Wageningen UR could take to change this situation for the better.

On behalf of the VWI-network Christine Verheijden officially handed over the report to the Rector Magnificus prof dr Martin Kropff. Then the Rector got the opportunity to give his reaction to the recommendations made.
